And it was incredibly affordable compared to today.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would it be better to just have a lot of society be underground?
2·10 days agoDo you want to live underground?
Yeah. I wouldn’t model my lifestyle after his per se, but he is definitely an inspiration.

18·23 days agoGuys. This problem is solved already. Landlock, bubblewrap, UNIX DAC.
You better believe I was degaussing as many CRTs as I could.
You should file an issue.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the best food you're had in another country that's not from that country?
2·1 month agoidk man the doner kebab I had in Berlin was way better than in Istanbul. Istanbul still had excellent food, just not the kebab for whatever reason. Maybe we just didn’t try the right place.

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Hawaii just entirely removed corporations' power to spend money in politics. This could be a game changer for US democracy.English
3·2 months agoDoes Citizens United even matter that much anymore? We’re at the point where individual billionaires are making massive campaign donations and even transparent bribes. Removing the ability for corporations to contribute to campaign finance just reveals one layer of dark money, but it doesn’t solve the problem of the power of wealth in politics.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the most important things to teach a child that they're not going to get in school?
9·2 months agoReal history that explains how existing power structures came to exist. Not the bullshit history that schools teach, which is just wrote memorization and usually ignorant of the most important themes of class struggle.
Judgement call. When it’s something prone to change that’s hard to get right, duplicating it just creates more maintenance burden.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I would like to play a calm game
2·2 months agoThe span of time pressure is so long though you barely even notice it. And because it’s a core mechanic, it’s mostly inconsequential and doesn’t really feel stressful for me.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I would like to play a calm game
5·2 months agoDifferent strokes. I found it incredibly relaxing to fly around in my spaceship exploring. I can think of one specific planet that’s not very chill, but the rest were.
Without spoiling too much, maybe the time pressure gets to you? For me it’s long enough that I don’t really feel it for most of the game.
Nerd question: My English brain reads “happy little accident” and “big angry intent” as the correct ordering of adjectives for both phrases. But semantically, the adjectives are actually swapped in order (big and little are not in the same position). What is going on?

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•rust blasphemy (added context)
463·3 months agoPeople who’ve never used Rust or only used it once and couldn’t grok it like to meme that Rust is bad to cope.

I would say it’s more than just an icky feeling. It’s a justified moral opposition. But otherwise I agree. Just a tool.
