Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•what's your take on employers banning the use of languages other than English between coworkers at the workplace?2·3 days agoI’d almost say that’s a discrimination suit waiting to happen if pretty much everywhere wasn’t “at-will employment”. My work doesn’t care what language you speak and I think HR is required to know a good amount of multiple languages cause of it. Granted most people don’t directly talk to each other here and communicate through hand signs since nobody can hear anyone anyway.
He’s a right winger upset that most people disagree with him.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did anyone else not even know who Charlie Kirk was!?13·5 days agoMost I knew was he was an annoying rightwinger which is enough to get on my “follow your leader” list. Once I saw the small face memes I remembered a bit, but was just happy one of these people was gone that apparently had a lot of pull online.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Non-Americans, how and what do the news and social media in your country portray the US?2·6 days agoI have a Canadian friend who only gets a small bit of news about what goes on in America and downplays anyone who lives here as overreacting when we say shit is getting worse. Our friend group helps keep him more informed, but since he has family in the middle east he also has the mindset of “things can get a lot worse”.
I blocked pretty freely on Twitter till I left the site around when I got the Bluesky invite. I still block freely on there, but not Reddit or Lemmy. I didn’t on Reddit cause there was a cap on how many accounts you can have blocked and Lemmy doesn’t handle blocks in a way I like so I just don’t bother. I like being able to curate my experience and the experience others that interact with me have. I got no energy for shit stains so blocking is easier than constantly knowing they exist.
This is why I use the block button and block lists frequently on Bluesky and not at all here. Actually does its job there.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you think about the concept of lesser evil? (i.e. when faced with selecting from two immoral options, the less immoral one should be chosen.)10·11 days agoWhen it comes to politics, it’s dangerous thinking that got us in this hellhole in the first place. It proved to anyone getting into politics that you can be a massive shit stain, but just be a slightly smaller shit stain than your opponent and people will support you to no end. Alternatively you can be the exact same level of shit stain as your opponent, but say things in a nicer way or just not at all and get the same results.
I personally have refused to accept this outcome since the only thing it leads us to is a slower death. I’d rather put my time and effort into supporting those that keep us alive even if most refuse to support that decision and call it idiotic.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Has Charlie Kirk ever changed his views on a subject during a debate?1·11 days agoI might need a year. I don’t get this level of happiness often.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is it called when you believe the U.S. political parties shouldn’t exist?1·13 days agoWe can get there with A LOT more violence.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•do you consider joking about dying and killing oneself a sign that the person saying it is troubled?2·14 days agoI talk about wanting to blow my brains out all the time. Honestly just a way to vent frustration at life.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If you argue for a cause like affordable housing for everyone, is it necessarily hypocritical if you also own investment properties?4·21 days agoYes. Anything that gives people monetary incentive over basic needs should be removed. Keep that shit to things that don’t matter.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If you argue for a cause like affordable housing for everyone, is it necessarily hypocritical if you also own investment properties?11·21 days agoIf you make even a penny of profit, then yes. Housing should never be something someone does to make money. Shelter is a basic human need for survival.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?6·26 days agoAs someone who has never ridden a train (unless you count the thing they use to get around the Atlanta airport or the slow ones at a theme park or zoo), I wouldn’t be shocked if I ended up doing something similar. I just think trains are neat and would love to ride one someday.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Where is the best place to go to engage in polite conversation with random strangers?2·1 month agoMy therapist recommended I try to do some volunteer work when I brought up not having anyone in person (other than him and family) to talk to about things really depressed me. Told me about a site called justserve which has quite a few community volunteering projects on it I’m willing to try out.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•On a scale of 0 to 10, how good are you at technology?4·1 month agoProbably around 4-6. I know the basics and can do a few other things after using resources from Google/YouTube, but there’s times where I stare at a problem and feel like I became my parents who can’t figure out how to make a window take up the whole screen.
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how far out of your way do you go to help wild animals each day on average?2·1 month agoMy dad likes to feed wild racoons and I help him with that. He puts some dog food and a couple other things out for them and they come up every night to get some and hang out for a bit before returning home
Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which job(s) would you refuse to accept regardless of how good the pay is?2·1 month agoAnything public facing or anything that has me carrying around a gun. Both are absolute no-gos in my mind.
I’ve been called one, but fuck if I know what I am.
