Throughout my Minecraft experience, I’ve primarily focused on PvP, Redstone , Mods, and command blocks contraptions, i never truly identified myself as a builder. While I have created maps before, these relied heavily on procedural generation with minimal personal input on my part; I generally preferred customizing biomes and similar features that required little direct construction. Especially back the day when these type of stuff were secret on bedrock finding how to do it without mods was awesome I used to love sharing those tutorials. My limited engagement with building stemmed largely from insufficient opportunity and inadequate tools, especially on Bedrock Edition where functionality is often restricted. and having a potato of a PC and phone it significantly hindered my ability to express myself creatively through building. Consequently, I’m now seeking information on recent building tools, software, and development trends to re-engage with this aspect of the game. My goal is to finally develop my skills as a builder so that I’d be able to turn what I envision into reality in Java Edition ‘thumbnail relevant’

As with most creative endeavors the main way of improving is (as far as I know; I’m not the best of builders myself) to look at what other people do and practice a lot.

As for building tools, software, etc. there’s world edit and litematica. The latter is pretty useful if you’ve built something in creative and want to transfer it to a survival world/server.

Grain’s old and original content before it became mostly hermitcraft was videos about teaching you about how to build things, houses and interiors etc. They are really good for teaching you how to build much better more creative buildings and while things in minecraft have expanded since they are still very relevant and a rapid introduction to the principles of minecraft creative design.

Nowadays Axiom is quite a good tool for creative mode but it does feel a lot less like Minecraft than world edit and it is sadly closed source (no idea how world edit is licensed).

Also for a potato PC Sodium and other performance mods are probably a good idea and don’t forget about the no telemetry mod either.

You might explore buildstone. Mumbo has been doing it recently, grian even did a little bit. I forget the other person who sort of kicked off the trend but mumbo credits them.

I recommend the mod Axiom. It’s like a much more powerful MCEdit with everything built into the game and lots of QOL features that are really useful in building and mapmaking. Check out it’s 3D color space, a very useful feature. For creating custom worlds, Worldpainter can be used. It’s pretty self-explanatory, it lets you paint terrain generation and stuff like trees and biomes via an external editor.

    Other tools:

    • Voxel Sniper - A popular plugin for painting and sculpting. I haven’t used it much.
    • World Edit - The defacto mod for building and editing a world. Many features of Worldedit are also in Axiom, but I tend to use them in conjunction.
